Suzette Bousema

With the same curiosity as a scientist Suzette Bousema visualizes contemporary environmental topics. Planetary conditions and our place in them are the starting point for my work, leading her to the ways humans interfere with nature and how we relate to the earth on an individual level. By visualizing the beauty of scientific research, Bousema aims to positvely contribute to ongoing environmental debates.

Currently, she is inspired by Hyperobjects, a book by philosopher Timothy Morton. A hyperobject is such a big or abstract object, that we cannot see or touch it, but only experience it through it's effects. An example of this is when we can see and touch a single plastic object, but to imaghine global pollution is nearly impossible. Through art (more specifically photography). Bousema attempts to gain a better understanding of environmental hyperobjects, like climate change. She reaches this creative conversation through constant conversation and collaboration, consistently searching for a new or different perspective.
