About

Sebastiaan Knot (b. 1970, Groningen, Netherlands) transforms the elemental forces of light and color into vivid abstractions that hover between image and object. Based in Rotterdam, he begins with the simplest of materials, arranging and illuminating them with precisely tuned colored light. From these quiet experiments emerge works that expand beyond photography into sculptural reliefs and immersive spatial encounters.

Knot’s practice is driven by a fascination with perception—how light shapes space, how color alters form, and how vision itself can be unsettled. His series *Colliding Colors*, *Perspective*, and *Fold* reveal environments where planes fold and dissolve, surfaces pulse with luminous intensity, and depth flickers between presence and illusion.

Through this interplay of precision and sensorial immediacy, Knot invites viewers to slow down and inhabit a heightened awareness of seeing. His works have been shown internationally, including in *Vasarely Legacy* at Fondation Vasarely in France, and are held in both public and private collections. With presentations at major art fairs such as Unseen Photo Fair, Art Miami, EXPO Chicago, and MIA Photo Fair, Knot continues to expand his language of light—constructing spaces where abstraction becomes an experience rather than an image.
