Je ziet meteen dat de huidige wereld van Robbert Fortgens meer ontleend is aan de concrete werkelijkheid, anders dan de alleen abstracte ideeën uit zijn eerdere periode. Die concrete werkelijkheid van mensen en dingen om ons heen wordt door de kunstenaar voortdurend fotografisch vastgelegd in heel veel beelden.
Deze avantgardistische fotowerken worden terzijde gestaan door stoere, bijna sereen witte, stopverf dikke oliedoeken. Het werk zuigt je naar binnen en houdt je tegelijk door een schijnbare koelheid op afstand. Als in een heftige liefdesrelatie verhouden zich de twee disciplines. Soms vechtend dan weer flirtend vormen ze een spannend maar homogeen geheel.
While the earlier works of Robbert Fortgens were primarily based on abstract themes, his current art is clearly derived from a concrete actuality. Reality is continuously captured by the artist in the form of photographic images of the people and objects that surround him.
These avant garde photo works are supported by a sturdy yet serene white oil paint, thick as putty. These works draws you near, yet simultaneously their aloofness demands you keep your distance. These two qualities relate to one another as lovers living through an intense affair: fighting and flirting, they form unity that is exciting and homogeneous at the same time.
